The TAMECH Experience

The UG Robotics team from AIT (Titan) had their hands busy this year as they competed, for the first time, in the Thai Aerial Mission Engineering Challenge (TAMECH) held at the Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Don Mueang, Bangkok, Thailand. TAMECH is a national competition where teams from different universities across the country have to complete two sets of challenges: a manual flight and an automatic flight. The manual flight challenge was to maneuver the drone using a joystick with the Robot Operating System (ROS) as an interface, through a winding series of obstacles and find a hidden picture inside a tunnel. The automatic part was done using image processing and ROS, where the drone had to automatically find a container placed in the field, drop a ball in it and land in a given spot. The AIT UG Robotics team used the AR.Drone 2.0 UAV for both matches. Overall, the UG Robotics team qualified for the top 16 in the first round and reached the finals, in which they earned a spot in the top ten. Visit the AIT Robotics Club.
